At its March 2026 council meeting, the Township approved the transfer of additional adjoining lands to the project, providing sufficient land for KDSB to advance a proposed 20-unit, single-storey seniors’ building on Pine Street. The land transfer was completed in August 2026 and the newly granted lands, combined with the existing allocated parcel, will create a larger site with more development potential that will help realize the community’s collective vision.

“The ability to age in communities of choice is vital for seniors’ overall wellbeing. I want to thank both of our teams for working together to move this project from its initial concept towards reality. The additional land will provide a high-quality site for the proposed housing complex. It is an exciting development for the community, as these units will be purpose- built to provide residential spaces that accommodate the changing physical, social and health needs of seniors,” says Sarah Stevenson, CEO, Kenora District Service Board.

“This project represents an extremely important investment in the future of our community here in Ignace. By working together with the KDSB, we are helping ensure that more seniors can remain in Ignace, close to the people, services and community they know and value,” says Kim Baigrie, Mayor, Township of Ignace.

The KDSB is actively advancing pre-development planning and pursuing funding opportunities that will allow construction to commence in the future. Additional details about the 20-unit seniors’ complex development in Ignace will be provided to the public as they become available.
