Paramedic Services Week is May 21 – May 27; This year’s theme is ‘Diversity in Paramedicine.’ The Kenora District Services Board (KDSB) wants to say ‘Thank you’ this week as we recognize over 140 active Northwest Emergency Medical Services (NWEMS) paramedics and all paramedics within their respective services, jurisdictions, provinces, across Canada and beyond.
“Paramedic Services Week is an annual opportunity to recognize paramedics and their important role in our health care system and our communities. We have asked a lot of our staff during the COVID-19 pandemic, and I am humbled by their commitment, compassion, and dedication to the field. Efforts are underway to recruit new paramedics through the District through an Education Cost Recovery program’. This program is an offering to 2023 Paramedic school graduates for new Northwest EMS recruits. This program helps pay off tuition, fees, books, and supplies with up to $4,000 per year for two years after a specific accrual of hours,” says Henry Wall, Chief Administrative Officer of the KDSB.
“I am immensely proud of our service and staff. Northwest EMS paramedics are on the frontlines and have selflessly stepped up during community staffing gaps to ensure high-quality service for the well-being of those in need of emergency response. This profession is challenging but rewarding,” says David Hamilton, Director/Chief of EMS of the KDSB NWEMS. He continues, “The Kenora District offers a vast array of amenities and activities to those who come to our area; there are also diverse job opportunities within the field through frontline emergency response paramedicine or community paramedicine.”
NWEMS paramedics provide compassionate, high-quality emergency medical care for those who call 9-1-1 in the District of Kenora. If you see a NWEMS paramedic in your community, thank them for their service!
