KITCHEN ASSISTANT

We are currently seeking to hire one (1) temporary, full-time Kitchen Assistant for the summer located in Dryden, Ontario (40 hours/week, Monday – Friday). Our employees enjoy a healthy work environment, development opportunities, and an opportunity to make a difference in the lives of others.
Reporting to the Early Years Quality Assurance Coordinator, the Kitchen Assistant is responsible for assisting in developing and providing nutritious meals for children ages 0 – 12, as well as assisting with transporting food to the other Early Learning Centres.
Key responsibilities include:
- Assist in ensuring the cleanliness of the kitchen and equipment, with strict adherence to the policies and procedures of the KDSB and the local health unit.
- Assist with planning all meals two weeks in advance, maintaining nutrition standards of Canada’s Food Guide and the special dietary needs of some children.
- Assist with preparing, cooking and presenting all food that is serviced in all the programs; aware of allergies, medical problems and eating behaviours/patterns.
- Help transport prepared meals and menu items off premises to all KDSB Early Learning Centres.
- Assist in ensuring meals and snacks are prepared and delivered accordingly to program schedule. Ensure all foods are available and defrosted for the next day’s menu.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Successful candidates will have or be able to:
- Ability to communicate effectively.
- Ability to work independently to complete assigned tasks.
- Understanding, awareness and inclusive of all cultures within programming.
- Knowledge of Canada’s Food Guide.
- Experience and/or familiarity completing the above tasks is beneficial.
- Ontario Secondary School Diploma (or equivalent).
- A satisfactory police vulnerable sector check.
- A valid Ontario Class G Driver’s license is required for food deliveries to the various sites.
To be considered for this position, you must be between 18 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada. The hourly wage for this position is $16.98 – $18.02 (wage subject to funding and whether the successful candidate is a returning student).
