The Kenora District Services Board (KDSB) Board of Directors has a new Board Chair and Vice-Chair following its first meeting of 2024.

The KDSB Board of Directors nominated and acclaimed Mayor Fred Mota of Red Lake as Board Chair and Barry Baltessen of Lake of the Woods North Unincorporated to the Board Vice Chair role.

“The KDSB is delighted to announce the appointment of Mayor Fred Mota as Board Chair and Barry Baltessen as Board Vice-Chair. Together, they will continue leading the KDSB as a catalyst for positive change. Fred will bring a new voice and perspective as Board Chair with experience across multiple sectors to provide valuable insight. Barry’s continued years of experience, knowledge, and leadership will help guide the organization in moving forward,” says Henry Wall, Chief Administrative Officer of the KDSB. He continues, “On behalf of the Board, we would like to thank outgoing Vice-Chair Mark Sobchuk of Lac Seul Unincorporated for his dedication, time, and knowledge in his role, and we look forward to his continued role as a Director on the Board. The KDSB has many exciting and meaningful initiatives and projects underway and a strong Board to advance them further.”

The Kenora District Services Board comprises nine members from the District’s Municipal councils and four from the District’s Unincorporated Territories. The KDSB’s next Board of Directors meeting is on Thursday, February 15, 2024.
