At its May 2022 Board Meeting, the Kenora District Services Board (KDSB) awarded its 2022 “Child Poverty Reduction Reinvestment Funding” (CPRRF) to community-led initiatives across the District of Kenora.
Funding provided through this program assists over 1,000 children annually across the District, which equates to approximately 20% of children meeting eligibility for assistance. This funding opportunity is provided solely by the Municipalities and Unincorporated Territories that comprise the KDSB’s Board.
The Board of Directors of the KDSB fundamentally believes that all children need and deserve equal access to organized sports, recreation, community activities, and food security.
Due to the impacts of COVID-19, and limited recreation programming offered in 2021, the KDSB did not complete the CPRRF process. The Northwestern Health Unit – Nutrition on Weekends Program and the Kenora Beaver Brae PASS Program identified additional needs in the Fall of 2021. These programs were allocated funding based on the demonstrated need. The remaining budget was carried forward to be combined with the 2022 budget allocation. The total allocation to be distributed in 2022 is $201,290.
“The COVID-19 Pandemic continues to impact families and children across our District and creates barriers to active participation. The Board remains committed to ensuring that children and youth in our communities, particularly low-income children and youth, have equal and equitable opportunities to access these enriching programs,” says Barry Baltessen, Board Chair of the KDSB.
In total, the KDSB will be providing funding to thirteen programs throughout the District:

The KDSB is thankful for the community organizations that applied for funding and are encouraged by the great work that is taking place in the District. Through the CPRRF, the KDSB looks forward to working with vital community partners, and the continued work of supporting community organizations in implementing programs that increase the overall well-being and participation opportunities for children and youth in the District of Kenora.
