Cold Weather Drop-in Centre opens in Sioux Lookout for 2022 season

The Kenora District Services Board (KDSB), First Step Women’s Shelter, and the Municipality of Sioux Lookout would like to announce that Sioux Lookout’s cold weather drop-in centre will resume its operations at 66A Front Street on Monday, January 17, 2022.

Emergency Child Care Services available in the Kenora District for eligible workers

The Kenora District Services Board (KDSB) is working in partnership with community-based licensed child care providers to deliver emergency child care free of charge to eligible workers. This service provision comes following the province’s announcement that free emergency child care for school-aged children of eligible health care and frontline workers would be provided potentially as soon as Monday, January 10, 2022.

KDSB to credit families for child care fees for the month of December

The Kenora District Services Board (KDSB) will be supporting families by waiving fees for parents and families who access KDSB full-day child care, before and after school care, and nursery school programs (both direct delivery and operationally funded) throughout the District for the month of December 2021.

KDSB Broadband Internet Project

The Kenora District Services Board (KDSB) has received funding from the Federal Government of Canada to provide high-speed internet within the Kenora District to those with limited or inadequate access to reliable, high-quality internet.  Community members who have a permanent residence (rent or own) within the Kenora District who are interested in learning more about the eligibility criteria and receiving future communications on this project, please click here to access the online sign-up form.

Overnight warm-up emergency shelter to open in Dryden

Overnight emergency shelter services will be offered in Dryden beginning mid-January. The shelter will be operated by Dryden Full Gospel Church in Dryden and offered three nights a week for the remainder of winter 2022 as a pilot project to ensure that vulnerable individuals have a safe place to be.

Kenora District Regional Housing Strategy

A Regional Housing Strategy is needed to respond to these challenges and opportunities. The Kenora District Housing Strategy: Building Housing Together will help prepare the foundation for new housing that can better address and plan for our District’s existing and future housing needs.
