Homelessness in Northern Ontario

"A Place for Everyone"
Ten Year Housing and Homelessness Plan

The Kenora District is for the most part a rugged wilderness with small pockets of population, ranging from just short of 16,000 in the City of Kenora to individual rural, remote dwellings in the unincorporated areas.

Each community is unique in its economic capacity and municipal challenges; some communities with thriving economies and growing populations while others have lost their main employer and are experiencing diminished tax base and out migration.

The thriving communities have high housing costs, low vacancy rates and long wait lists for social housing. Three communities have no social housing units, senior or family.
